Luney’s safety tools, and where to find them.
If you’re in danger right now, call your local emergency number. Luney isn’t a crisis service and can’t send anyone to help. The tools below are free for everyone on Luney.

What each tool does
Next to each tool is where it is in the app, in the app’s own labels, so you can open Luney and find it.

Panic Mode

If someone walks up or looks over your shoulder, Panic Mode lets you hide Luney in a moment. It stays hidden until you bring it back, and if you don’t come back within five minutes, your Trusted Circle gets an alert that you may need help.

App Lock
Settings, Security, App Lock
A PIN of 4 to 8 digits that you type to open Luney, separate from your phone’s own lock. Luney locks again once it has been in the background for the time you pick under Auto-lock, from Immediately to After 1 hour. Turn it on once and it applies on all your devices, and unlocking works without a connection.

Stealth Mode
Settings, Privacy, Stealth Mode
You look offline to everyone, with no Last seen line, and nobody sees when you’re typing or have read their messages. Read receipts are off both ways while it’s on. You’re also left out of the Home cards that show who’s around, such as Roll Call and Shoutouts, and out of mutual-friend lists. Hide me from search is its own switch on the same Privacy page.

Trusted Circle

Up to five Luney friends who get an alert when you may need help: when you don’t come back from Panic Mode within five minutes, or miss a Date Check-in. They have to accept your invite, and either of you can leave at any time.

Date Check-in
Settings, Safety, Date Check-in
Before you meet someone new, set a deadline between 15 minutes and 12 hours away, and add who you’re meeting and where if you want to. If you haven’t tapped “I’m safe” by then, your Trusted Circle gets an alert with the details you added. You can push the deadline back if plans run long.

Screenshots and screen recordings of Luney come out black on iPhone and Android. On iPhone, if someone tries to screenshot your post, profile picture, group photo, DM photo or reel, you get a notification and they’re told you were notified. A group’s owner can turn those warnings off for the group. When someone watches a reel, their own handle shows over it.

When our team acts on your account
If Luney staff warn you, suspend you, limit what you can do or remove something you posted, it’s listed in Settings › Account Activity, and you can appeal most decisions from there. The Open book publishes the moderation numbers, and we publish a signed warrant canary.
Common questions
What is Panic Mode on Luney?
If someone walks up or looks over your shoulder, Panic Mode lets you hide Luney in a moment. It stays hidden until you bring it back, and if you don’t come back within five minutes, your Trusted Circle gets an alert that you may need help. Switch it on in Settings › Safety › Panic Mode.
Does Luney share my location?
No. Luney never asks for your phone’s location, and it removes the location from every photo before it uploads. An event only shows the place its host typed in.
Can someone screenshot my messages without me knowing?
Screenshots and screen recordings of Luney come out black on iPhone and Android. On iPhone, if someone takes a screenshot or starts recording while a chat is open, everyone in the chat sees a line saying who did it, unless it’s a group whose owner has turned screenshot warnings off. No app can stop someone photographing the screen with another phone.
