Luney is an 18+ social app for LGBTQIA+ people, made by queer people. There’s no swiping through people. Members meet in groups, group chats, events and live audio rooms, and add each other as friends. Each group can have its own posts, chat, events and rules, and its admins can set up roles. Members choose who sees each post, and the app never asks for a phone’s location. The safety tools include Panic Mode, App Lock, Trusted Circle and Date Check-in, and screenshots of the app come out black. A person decides every report, and Luney publishes its moderation numbers. Longer description
Luney is an 18+ social app for LGBTQIA+ people, made by queer people. It’s for friendship and community rather than dating, and there’s no swiping through people. Members meet in groups, which can be public or private, and each group can have its own posts, group chat, events and rules. They also meet in live audio rooms, where anyone listening can raise a hand and the host can bring them on stage to talk. Direct messages carry photos, GIFs and voice notes. A profile holds posts, reels and photo albums, and its owner chooses who can see each post and each album.
If someone walks up or looks over a member’s shoulder, Panic Mode lets them hide Luney in a moment. It stays hidden until they bring it back, and if they don’t come back within five minutes, the people who’ve accepted a place in their Trusted Circle get an alert that they may need help. Panic Mode, Trusted Circle and Date Check-in have been in the app since its first release. Screenshots and screen recordings of Luney come out black, the app never asks for a phone’s location, and it removes the location from photos before they upload. A person decides every report, and Luney publishes its moderation numbers. The core of the app is free, and an optional VIP subscription adds extras.
